Planning a Nature Trip to Sarawak? Avoid These Months
If you're planning a trip to Sarawak, especially if you're a nature lover, it is worth checking the season before booking your travel. From early August until the end of September, Sarawak often experiences haze, locally known as jerebu.

The haze is usually caused by human activities such as open burning and forest fires in the region and neighboring country. During this period, the air quality can become unhealthy, and visibility may be greatly reduced.
For travelers who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, jungle trekking, camping, or sightseeing, this is not the ideal time to visit. One of the biggest disappointments is missing the breathtaking views that Sarawak is known for. For example, hikers who reach the peak of Mount Serapi may not be able to enjoy the stunning panorama of the lush green tropical forests stretching across Malaysia and Indonesian Kalimantan because the haze can cover the entire landscape.

Besides affecting the scenery, haze can also have an impact on our health. Spending long hours outdoors may cause discomfort, especially for children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions.
This does not mean you should avoid Sarawak completely, but it is important to plan your trip wisely. If your itinerary focuses on outdoor adventures and nature experiences, consider visiting during other months when the skies are clearer and the views are at their best.
A little planning can help you enjoy the beauty of Sarawak while making the most of your time and money.
